Job summary

Johns Hopkins Health System is hiring a Coding Specialist for the Anesthesia department. This 100% remote role supports professional billing coding, CPT/ICD-10-CM/HCPCS coding, and E/M leveling in a physician-based environment.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in HIM/Medical Coding (or equivalent), CPC/CCS-P/CCA certification, and at least 3 years of coding experience, including pain management. Residency requirements apply to listed states.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in HIM, Medical Coding, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• CPC (AAPC) certification, CCS-P, or CCA are required.
• Minimum 3 years of coding experience.
• Minimum 1 year experience in pain management is required.
• Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 coding systems and payer policies.

Responsibilities

• Assigns diagnosis and procedure codes to professional billing encounters based on documentation and coding guidelines.
• Codes moderately complex cases including multiple diagnoses and comorbid conditions.
• Reviews work queues in revenue cycle systems and resolves routine discrepancies.
• Collaborates with providers to clarify documentation and improve coding quality for accurate billing.
• Participates in coding quality assurance and ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines.
• Core focus includes CPT coding, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS coding, E/M leveling, and physician documentation review.
