Job summary

FormAssembly is seeking an AI-First Software Engineer to join a Node.js-focused team. You will design, develop, and ship features, author specs before coding, and leverage Claude Code to drive AI-assisted engineering.

Expect robust data pipelines, PostgreSQL schemas, and secure deployments on AWS in a fully remote environment. You will collaborate with product, UX, and leadership, contribute to documentation, and mentor teammates while delivering scalable backend services and data workflows

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related technical field.
• 4–5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with a strong focus on AWS.
• Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js for backend services.
• Strong PostgreSQL experience, including schema design and query optimization.
• Hands-on AI-assisted engineering experience with Claude Code or similar tools.
• Ability to design data pipelines, governance, and secure data handling.
• Knowledge of CI/CD and cloud deployment on AWS.

Responsibilities

• Feature Development: design, build, and ship features using Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL.
• Spec-Driven Development: craft specs before implementation and drive development from them.
• AI-Assisted Engineering: use Claude Code as a core part of the workflow while owning code quality.
• Data Processing: design schemas and pipelines in PostgreSQL for ingestion and transformation.
• Deployment: integrate features into existing apps and deploy on AWS with DevOps.
• Collaboration: work with Product, UX, and stakeholders to translate requirements.
• Documentation: create and maintain docs and training materials; share best practices.
