Job summary

CSO is seeking Relief Counselors to support Friends of the Homeless in Northampton. Responsibilities include triage, intake interviews, documenting services, bed assignments, meals, and guest engagement to maintain a safe shelter environment during shifts.

Starting pay is $18.50/hour. We value empathy, strong communication, and teamwork, and prefer candidates with a Human Services background and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred
• High School Diploma or Associate's degree with experience in the Human Services field
• Human Services related work or internship preferred
• Computer proficiency; valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Responsibilities

• Greet Shelter visitors with respect and sensitivity
• Provide safe, sanitary, and dignified environment for guests
• Coordinate evening/overnight activities including bed assignments and meals
• Process intake and ensure required documentation is obtained
• Maintain guest files and communicate findings to staff
• Build rapport with guests and assist with problem solving
• Support guests in crisis by connecting with CSO services and avoiding unnecessary 911 calls
• Conduct rounds and report safety/maintenance issues
• Document incidents and update guest charts in records system
• Coordinate social support groups and activities
