Job summary

Novartis Innovative Technologies Inc in Durham, NC seeks a Maintenance and Reliability Technician to operate, maintain, and improve facility systems in a regulated manufacturing environment.

You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot issues, support commissioning and qualification activities, and document actions while collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Automation teams to ensure safe, compliant operations.

Qualifications

• Associate degree, diploma, or technical certification in a related trade with two years of experience.
• 2-4 years of experience in maintenance, utilities, facilities, or similar technical environments.
• Experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceutical/biotech/healthcare.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, pneumatic, and utility system issues.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in cleanrooms and controlled environments.
• Knowledge of industrial safety practices and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and CMMS.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain utility, facility, electrical, and HVAC systems across the site.
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and uptime.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and utility system issues independently.
• Support startup, shutdown, commissioning, and qualification activities for critical facility systems.
• Lead initial alarm response activities and restore system functionality while maintaining operational continuity.
• Identify reliability improvement opportunities and support root cause investigations and corrective actions.
• Coordinate contractors and external service providers to ensure safe and compliant execution of work.
• Complete accurate maintenance records and documentation in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practices requirements.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Validation, Metrology, and Automation teams.
• Coach and support less experienced technicians while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
