Job Summary and Qualifications

The Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with the department’s specific requirements and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As a vital part of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs diagnostic tests, therapeutic procedures, and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

What you will do in this role:

• Perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure. Conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.
• Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
• Assist with placement of artificial airways. Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.
• Monitor patient response to therapy and intervene as needed, notifying providers of any issues.
• Assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.
• Respond to emergent situations ensuring airway integrity and ventilation during resuscitation.

What qualifications you will need:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date.
• RRT/Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT / RCP).
• Associate Degree.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Neonate Resuscitation or STABLE must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date.
