Position Summary:
To function at a professional nursing level using both administrative leadership and clinical expertise to ensure comprehensive care and treatment for residents. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to design, implement, and evaluate programs within the unit. Responsible for the continuity of nursing care and resident welfare 24/7.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Manage an assigned unit with leadership expertise.
- Coordinate with the Director of Nursing to maintain adequate staffing for 24-hour safe care, optimizing manpower to limit overtime and agency use.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate protocols/standards for the unit following proper approval channels.
- Assess staff performance related to job descriptions, standards of care, and individual goals.
- Implement progressive counseling and disciplinary actions as needed per policies.
- Encourage staff to perform to their full potential.
- Provide supervision and guidance to staff.
- Conduct shift meetings to disseminate information, develop protocols, and evaluate effectiveness.
- Attend committee meetings as requested.
- Handle administrative responsibilities during weekends and holidays as needed.
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement activities.
- Identify staff educational needs and coordinate training programs.
- Demonstrate and teach nursing skills specific to resident care.
- Participate in developing and evaluating resident care plans and team meetings.
- Serve as a role model in direct resident care.
- Manage MDS completion and discharge planning.
- Ensure effective communication and continuity of care during transfers.
- Engage in ongoing professional development.
- Prepare reports, review records, and participate in data collection.
- Adjust staffing evaluations across shifts.
- Oversee staffing assignments and participate in recruitment.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed to minimize risks.
- Deliver high-quality, compassionate care respecting residents’ needs and rights.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Educational and Vocational Requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing school.
- Minimum one year of leadership experience in a supervisory role.
- Current NJ nursing license.
- Membership in the Association of Professional Nurses is recommended.
