Job summary

Sovah Health—Danville is seeking a Pediatric Registered Nurse (PRN) to join a close-knit 6-bed pediatrics unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio. You'll provide care for infants and post-op patients, ensuring safety and high‑quality outcomes in a community hospital setting. Active Virginia RN license required.

Associate's degree is mandatory; Bachelor's degree preferred. BLS and ACLS within 6 months, PALS as applicable.

Qualifications

• Active Virginia RN license (single-state) required.
• Relocation licensure must be updated to the new PSOR before employment begins.
• Associate's degree in nursing required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• ACLS within 6 months of hire.
• PALS American Heart Association required, or within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs all aspects of patient care ensuring patient safety and reducing medical errors.
• Formulates and revises individualized care plans based on patient response.
• Monitors and communicates patient condition to care team, provider, patient and family.
• Coordinates care across disciplines including transfers, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial needs.
• Provides patient/family education appropriate to age and condition.
• Advocates for patient rights and emotional well-being.

More About Our Team

Our Pediatrics Department is a close‑knit 6‑bed unit with a favorable 1:4 nurse‑to‑patient ratio. Our patients primarily include infants with hyperbilirubinemia, post‑op tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy cases, and low‑acuity respiratory conditions. During periods of low census, Pediatric RNs may also care for post‑op GYN and mother/baby patients-offering variety and expanded experience.

How You'll Contribute

A Registered Nurse (RN) who excels in this role:

• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
• Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient's response to treatment, and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, provider, patient and family following chain of command as appropriate
• Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs,
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient protecting the patient's rights.

What We're Looking For

Applicants should have an active Virginia RN license (single-state) or compact license. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins. Associate's degree in nursing required.

Additional Requirements Include

• Bachelor's degree preferred
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support
• American Heart Association ACLS within 6 months of hire
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) American Heart Associationrequired,or within six (6) months of hire
• Experience in acute care hospital, preferred
