Job summary

UP Health System - Marquette, part of Lifepoint Health, seeks an Observation RN to join the team. The role involves 5 x 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a) with rotating weekends/holidays, at 0.75 FTE. A $7,500 sign-on bonus is available for qualified applicants.

In this unit you will monitor patients and guide them to admission or discharge, document care, and collaborate with providers to meet observation criteria. Your compassion and clinical skills will support rapid, safe patient care.

Qualifications

• Current Michigan RN license.
• Associate's degree from an accredited nursing school (bachelor's preferred).
• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP).
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Performs plan of care interventions including medication administration and clinical treatments.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitor patients for 24–48 hours to assess if admission or discharge is needed.
• Communicate patient condition to care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
• Collaborate across disciplines for coordinated patient care.

In our Observation Unit, you'll play a key role in monitoring patients, supporting timely clinical decisions, and helping guide them safely to the next step in their care-whether that's admission or discharge. How you'll contribute

An Observation RN who excels in this role:

• Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
• Documents patient care given.
• Work closely with providers to ensure patients meet observation criteria. Monitor patients for a period of 24-48 hours to assess their condition and determine if they need to be admitted as an inpatient or discharged.
• Monitors, records, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current Michigan RN license and possess an associate's degree from an accredited nursing school (bachelor's preferred).
