Job summary

UP Health System - Marquette is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Float Pool. This full-time role offers 6x12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, with rotating weekends and holidays and a $7,500 sign-on bonus for qualified applicants.

An experienced RN with Michigan licensure and an associate degree is required, with ACLS/PALS preferred. The position emphasizes flexible coverage across Med/Surg and related units and includes comprehensive benefits and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Current Michigan RN license; associate degree from an accredited nursing school (bachelor's preferred).
• BLS-HCP required; ACLS/PALS preferred.
• 1-2 years bedside RN experience; float pool experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Perform plan-of-care interventions including meds, specimen collection, treatments.
• Document care accurately and timely.
• Monitor patient condition and communicate changes to the care team.
• Assist with activities of daily living and provide patient education.
• Float throughout units to support departments and staff; coordinate transfers and discharges.
• Participate in performance improvement and required education; may have on-call assignments.

The Staffing Pool provides RN coverage across Med/Surg, Neuro/Ortho/Peds, Rehab, and Cardiac units. Staffing Pool RNs are highly adaptable nurses who thrive in dynamic environments and confidently support multiple clinical areas. This role offers a rewarding experience with diverse patient populations and opportunities to strengthen critical thinking and clinical skills.

How you'll contribute

A Float Pool RN who excels in this role:

• Performs plan-of-care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and related medical care.
• Documents care provided in a timely, accurate manner.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
• Assists with activities of daily living (hygiene, elimination, nutrition, ambulation).
• Displays initiative and flexibility to float throughout the building to support departments and staff.
• Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate care (transfers, discharges, referrals, psychosocial/spiritual support).
• Assessments learning needs; provides age- and culture-appropriate patient/family education.
• Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
• Participates in performance improvement and required education; works other shifts/units as needed and may take on-call assignments.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current Michigan RN license and possess an associate's degree from an accredited nursing school (bachelor's preferred).

Additional requirements include

• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
• 1-2 years minimum bedside RN experience
• ACLS, PALS, and Handle with Care (preferred)
• 2-4 years critical care experience (preferred)
