Job summary

Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, NC is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for Labor & Delivery on a PRN basis with 12-hour shifts. Shifts may include nights, days, weekends, and holidays. The unit handles about 50+ deliveries monthly, with a Level 2B nursery and a Mother Baby Unit, offering cross-training across the department.

As an RN, you will perform patient assessments, implement interventions, document care, and contribute to interdisciplinary care planning in a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Active North Carolina RN license required (or compact state).
• Associates degree required; BSN preferred.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire.
• AHA ACLS and PALS required within six months of hire.
• One year of RN experience preferred.
• Ability to think critically, make decisions, and work with minimal supervision in a stressful setting.

Responsibilities

• Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs.
• Initiates appropriate nursing interventions.
• Provides age-appropriate care based on condition.
• Documents medical necessity in the patient’s record.
• Completes and revises Interdisciplinary Care Plans for each patient.
• Performs timely QA assessments.

Join our team in a 18-bed Women's Services Unit featuring a Level 2B nursery with 6 beds, 8 bed Mother Baby Unit and 5 bed Labor and delivery unit.. With an average of 50 deliveries per month and a below-average C-section rate, our unit provides comprehensive care for expectant mothers and newborns. This role offers the opportunity to work in a supportive environment dedicated to promoting a positive birthing experience and ensuring the health and well‑being of mothers and infants alike. You will also have the opportunity to cross‑train in different areas of this department to gain experience. This department utilizes a self‑scheduling application.

How you’ll contribute

• Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs
• Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions
• Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient
• Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record
• Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient
• Performs timely and accurate QI assessments

What we’re looking for

• Licenses: Active North Carolina or compact state RN license required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.
• Associate's degree required, BSN preferred.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• AHA ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.
• One year of experience preferred.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
