Job summary

UP Health System - Bell is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department on a PRN/0.001 FTE basis with 12-hour shifts. The role emphasizes compassionate, high‑quality acute care in a community‑focused environment.

The ED RN will document care, monitor patient status, assist with activities of daily living, and coordinate transfers and discharge planning. Michigan RN license and an associate degree are required; ACLS/PALS/TNCC within 1 year and BLS-HCP are preferred.

Qualifications

• Active Michigan RN license required.
• Associate degree in nursing; bachelor’s preferred.
• ACLS, PALS and TNCC within 1 year of hire are required or preferred.
• 1 year of Medical/Surgical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs plan of care interventions including meds, specimens, treatments.
• Documents patient care administered.
• Monitors and communicates patient condition to care team, patient and family.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
• Coordinates transfers, discharge planning and referrals across disciplines.
• Provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, and condition.

How you'll contribute

An ED RN who excels in this role:

• Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Assist patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Evaluates learning needs of patients and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current Michigan RN license and possess an associate's degree from an accredited nursing school (bachelor's preferred).

Additional requirements include:

• AHA Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (within 1 year)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (within 1 year)
• Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) (within 1 year)
• 1 year of Medical/Surgical experience preferred.
