Job description

RN Charge (Team LEAD)
Provides nursing leadership for a specific shift and unit/area.

Reports to: Director of PCU

FLSA: Non-exempt

Education: Completion of an Associate Degree from a School of Nursing

License: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kentucky or a current RN compact or multistate license

Certifications: CPR certification required; ACLS & PALS w/in 6 months of hire.

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Essential Functions
  1. Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
  2. Determines staffing level and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, patient acuity and work/patient flow.
  3. Provides direct patient care as needed.
  4. Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving.
  5. May take patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
  6. Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
  7. Responds to complaints about patient care and related services, and manages through established channels.
  8. Performs role-specific duties as assigned, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers.
  9. Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care.
  10. Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
  11. Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
