Job summary

Trinity Health Ann Arbor is seeking a Registered Nurse in Behavioral Health to provide patient-centered care on the 1 East unit. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for adults with psychiatric needs, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Requires BSN within five years or commitment to obtain, Michigan RN license, and BLS. Evening and Night shifts with every other weekend/holiday rotation; comprehensive benefits and growth opportunities offered.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program with active Michigan RN license.
• BSN preferred; agreement to obtain BSN within five years if not yet held.
• Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualized care on a behavioral health unit.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to develop patient-centered plans.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the EMR and communicate patient status clearly.
• Demonstrate culturally sensitive, age-appropriate nursing care.
• Support safe environment and risk assessments for patients and families.
• Promote therapeutic relationships and de-escalation as needed.

Registered Nurse - Behavioral Health

Department: 1 East - Behavioral Health

Location: Trinity Health Ann Arbor

About the Department

1 East is a locked 36 bed, secured unit and services patients 18 through older adult. Services criteria includes the presence of life threatening and/or severely incapacitating symptoms and Potential of harm to self or others is considered serious. Patients are admitted Through Psychiatric Access department in the Emergency Department at THAA. In most cases face to-face assessments will be required and in other cases transfers or direct admissions from other locations may occur.

Shifts Available

Evening Shift 3p-1130p; Night Shift 11p-730a

Status available

Full-time, 8 Hour Shifts; Every Other weekend and Holiday rotation

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

• Graduation from accredited nursing program.
• All new hires must have a BSN degree or must agree in writing to obtain their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire or transfer to an RN role.
• Current Michigan Nursing License
• BLS

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Experience in Behavioral Health highly preferred.
• Knowledge of nursing theory, practice and age specific needs Interpersonal skills necessary to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Critical thinking skills necessary to perform principal duties and responsibilities of job description. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care.

What you will do:

• View patients holistically; considers physical, psychosocial, emotional, age specific, cultural and spiritual factors. Demonstrate appropriate assessment skills for identified patient populations.
• Demonstrate critical thinking skills by gathering and analyzing patient information, then responding to a patient situation.
• Develop, implement, evaluate and revise an individualized plan of care using evidenced based interventions and standards of care. Identify needs and begins to plan for care across the continuum considering patient and family preferences. Identify patient and family education needs. Develop and implement teaching plans based on evidence-based practice, seeking out additional resources when necessary. Utilize teach back methodology to assure patient and family is learning effectively. Identify necessary resources to assure readiness for discharge and begins to develop plan in collaboration with other disciplines.
• Create an environment that promotes a positive patient experience.
• Communicate both verbal and written information (including documentation in the EMR) that is accurate, timely, concise and thorough. Effectively communicate patient status, priority goals and interventions to colleagues and other disciplines during consultation, rounds and handoffs.
• Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
