Job summary

New York Cancer & Blood Specialists in Riverhead, NY seeks an experienced Registered Nurse (RN). You will administer chemotherapeutic and biologic agents, monitor patient status, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver compassionate cancer care close to home.

Qualifications

• Valid New York State RN license.
• BLS certification required.
• Excellent assessment, communication, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with an EMR preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and travel to NYCBS locations.
• Knowledge of PPE and handling cytotoxic agents.

Responsibilities

• Administer chemotherapeutic and biologic agents as prescribed.
• Monitor vital signs and chart in the medication administration record.
• Collaborate with a healthcare team to share expertise and knowledge.
• Participate in cancer research trials and administer medications per protocol.
• Provide supportive resources to patients and caregivers to promote health and wellness.
• Educate patients and families about treatment expectations and follow-up care.
• Chart patient responses to treatment and medications.
• Educate patients and caregivers about follow-up care and emergency services.

Registered Nurse (RN)

Location

Riverhead, NY

Hours/Days

5/8.5 hour shifts, Mon-Fri 8a-6p (RDO Thursday)

In This Role, You Will

• Administer chemotherapeutic and biologic agents, as well as supportive care medications as prescribed by a physician
• Recognize and treat cancer‑related and treatment‑related issues
• Monitor and chart vital signs, document in the medication administration record
• Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to share expertise and knowledge
• Participate in cancer research trials, administering medications per protocol
• Provide supportive resources to patients and caregivers to promote health and wellness
• Teach patients and caregivers families regarding treatment expectations
• Monitor patient status during the administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and supportive medications
• Chart the patient’s response to treatment and medication
• Educate patients and caregivers about follow up care and emergency services

We Require

• Valid New York State RN License
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required
• Excellent assessment, communication, and organizational skills
• Proficiency with an EMR (preferred)
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer, standing, bending and reaching
• Knowledge of standard precautions and the ability to utilize appropriate PPE when administering cytotoxic agents and handling bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
• Reliable transportation to travel to NYCBS locations for patient care needs
