Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group in Victorville, California, seeks a Registered Nurse Program Director for the Desert Hill Crisis Residential Treatment program. The role runs Monday–Friday 9:00 AM–5:30 PM, including on‑call consultation, with a starting compensation of $90,000–$105,000 per year.

You will supervise Nursing Department staff, help develop service objectives and nursing policies, and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements while collaborating to optimize patient care.

Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted California RN license required.
  • Associate’s degree in nursing required; BSN/MSN degree preferred.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification (AHA or Red Cross).
  • Valid California driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Minimum 1 year direct clinical experience with mental illness; 1 year supervisory/leadership in behavioral health.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and manage a diverse nursing team; strong verbal and written communication; pass background checks and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Nursing Department staff, including hiring, supervising, and performance management.
  • Contribute to development of nursing objectives, policies, and job descriptions; ensure regulatory and stakeholder compliance.
  • Participate in budget development and collaborate with internal and external departments to optimize patient care.

What You Bring to SBHG (Qualifications):
  • Education & Licensure: Licensure: Active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license (Required). Education: Associate’s degree from an accredited school of nursing required; a Bachelor’s (BSN) or Master’s (MSN) degree in nursing is highly preferred.
  • Credentials: Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.
  • Transportation: Valid California Driver's License with an eligible driving record. Meet agency driver eligibility criteria if applicable.
  • Preferred Experience: One (1) year of direct clinical experience treating individuals with mental illness. One (1) year of supervisory or nursing leadership experience within a behavioral health facility.
  • Competencies & Compliance: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage a diverse nursing team. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with clients, staff, physicians, and community partners. Must successfully pass a mandatory background check, criminal record clearance, and drug screening.
How you will make a difference:

The Nursing Department Director ensures every client receives the highest quality of nursing care, treatment, and medication as ordered by the attending physician or psychiatric nurse practitioner. This position is responsible for selecting, hiring, and supervising all Nursing Department staff, while also aiding in the development of service objectives, nursing policies, and job descriptions. The Supervisor maintains leadership that aligns with agency goals and ensures departmental adherence to all governmental and stakeholder regulations. The role also involves participating in budget development and collaborating with both internal and external departments to facilitate smooth facility operations and optimize patient care.

Division/Program Overview:
  • Program: The Crisis Residential Treatment (CRT) is a short-term voluntary residential facility.
  • Population Served: Designed to help adult residents, ages 18-59, who experience a psychiatric crisis to safely stabilize, recover, and transition back to community.
  • Facility & Setting: Short-term voluntary residential facility, 24/7
  • Program Clinical Services: Therapeutic and mental health services, Medication evaluation and support services, Crisis intervention
  • Length of Stay: Short-term
  • Skills & Transition: Pre-vocational or vocational counseling, transition back to community
  • Skills & Services: Rehabilitation/recovery services, including substance use rehabilitation services, Daily exercise and health/wellness education
