Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group in Torrance, CA seeks a Nursing Coordinator to support the Director of Nursing and supervise nursing staff. You will ensure proper medication administration, coordinate shifts, and assist with admissions, transfers, and care plans for adolescents with complex mental health needs.

The role requires a California LVN or LPT license, with 1 year clinical experience with severely emotionally disturbed youth preferred.

Qualifications

  • Active, valid California LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) or LPT (Licensed Psychiatric Technician) license.
  • Graduation from an accredited LVN or Licensed Psychiatric Technician program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Nursing and provide supervision to nursing staff as directed.
  • Coordinate nursing staff schedules and ensure on-call coverage.
  • Provide medication education and information to clients and caregivers.
  • Assist with admissions, discharges, transfers, and transportation scheduling.
  • Ensure nursing care plans and documentation are complete and accurate.

What you bring to SBHG (Qualifications):
  • Active, valid California LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse), or LPT (Licensed Psychiatric Technician) license.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Licensed Vocational Nursing or Licensed Psychiatric Technology, preferred
Experience & Training:
  • Clinical Experience: One (1) year experience working with severely emotionally disturbed (SED) children OR a 40 hours of regulatory on-the-job training.
  • Preferred Experience: One (1) year of medication administration experience, an associate's degree, Quality Assurance (QA) experience, and/or prior supervisory experience.
Core Skills & Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of medication administration, especially psychotropic meds and medical treatment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively interact with seriously emotionally disturbed adolescents, physicians, staff and the public.
How you will make a difference (job overview):

The Nursing Coordinator position provides support for Director of Nursing. Also provides monitoring, education, and direction to the nursing staff as directed by the DON. The Nurse Coordinator helps ensure that each PHF and CTF client receives the nursing care, treatment, medications and diet, which have been ordered by the attending physician, ensuring the overall quality of licensed nursing care for Star View. Work with physicians, social workers, and medical records to secure informed consent for medication from parents, courts, conservators, etc. Nursing coordinator's duties will also include providing coverage in the milieu as needed. Provide medication education and information on health practices to clients. Helps to ensure safety and meet the physical and psychosocial needs of clients. Coordinate the development and maintenance of an accurate work schedule for CTF and PHF nursing staff including a current "on call" list. Participate in ProAct assignments and activities. Consult with Director of Training in planning and conducting the orientation program and continuing education for nursing personnel. Provides other nursing duties including first Aid and medical intervention within scope of licensure as necessary for each individual client. Ensure accurate, complete, and appropriate nursing care plans and other nursing documentation are generated and maintained in a timely manner in the medical record system. Coordinate admissions, discharges, transfers, and arrange transportation for medical and other appointments.   • Population Served: A comprehensive mental health in patient residential facility for adolescents; Statewide service for up to 60 adolescents (ages 12–17) experiencing severe mental health challenges.
  • Facility & Setting: 24/7 locked, highly secure inpatient residential campus operating with the highest standards of dignity and care since 1988.
  • Programs: Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF), Community Treatment Facility (CTF), and an on-site Non-Public High School (SBHS).
  • Clinical Services: Multidisciplinary mental health services, Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS), and Intensive Day Treatment Program.
