Job summary

Ascension in Austin, TX is seeking a part-time PACU registered nurse to provide expert post-anesthesia care for high-acuity patients at Dell Seton Medical Center. You will uphold AORN/ASPAN standards and maintain aseptic technique in a fast-paced surgical environment.

The role requires TX RN licensure, ACLS/BLS within the designated timeframe, and a Diploma or BSN. Schedule is 20 hours per week across two weekdays, 10:00 am–8:30 pm, with three on-call shifts every six weeks; Ascension offers

Qualifications

• RN license from Texas prior to hire date.
• ACLS or BLS within 6 months/30 days depending on cert.
• Diploma from accredited school/college of nursing OR professional licensure at hire time.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert, direct nursing care for high-acuity patients in the immediate post-operative period, following AORN/ASPAN standards and aseptic technique.
• Evaluate physiological responses to anesthesia and surgery, anticipating needs and potential complications.
• Implement aggressive, individualized pain management strategies to stabilize patients during recovery.
• Act as advocate for patient safety in a Level 1 setting within a high-volume surgical environment.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Provide expert, direct nursing care for high-acuity patients in the immediate post-operative period, maintaining strict adherence to AORN/ASPAN standards and aseptic techniques.
• Evaluate physiological responses to anesthesia and surgical interventions, utilizing clinical expertise to anticipate case-specific needs and potential complications based on complex pathophysiology.
• Implement aggressive, individualized pain management strategies and therapeutic interventions to stabilize patients during the most vulnerable phase of surgical recovery.
• Function as a vigilant advocate in a Level 1 setting, continuously assessing patient stability to ensure safe transitions and optimal outcomes in a high-volume surgical environment.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• One or more of the following required:
• Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR professional licensure at time of hire required.

What Additional Preferences We're Seeking

• 3 + Years ICU or PACU RN experience
• BSN
