Job summary

Ascension is seeking an experienced NICU Registered Nurse in Round Rock, TX, for day shift and PRN coverage. You will provide specialized care for neonates with high-acuity needs, utilizing ventilators and CPAP, while contributing to critical team efforts during deliveries and emergencies.

Candidates should hold an RN license with Texas BON and BLS; NRP/ STABLE certifications are preferred. You will engage families, teach newborn care, and support the transition from hospital to home with

Qualifications

  • BLS within 30 days of hire.
  • RN credentialing with Texas BON before/at hire.
  • STABLE certification preferred.
  • NRP certification preferred.
  • Diploma or higher in nursing required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for neonates with complex medical needs, including prematurity and respiratory support.
  • Participate in High-Risk Delivery and Neonatal Code teams, performing rapid assessment per NRP guidelines.
  • Manage neonatal access devices (UAC, UVC, PICC) and administer weight-based medications and TPN.
  • Educate and support families, guiding transition from NICU to home with appropriate resources.

How you’ll make an impact in this role
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for neonates with complex medical needs, including prematurity, respiratory distress, and congenital anomalies, utilizing advanced technology such as conventional mechanical ventilation and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP).
  • Serve as a critical member of the High-Risk Delivery and Neonatal Code teams, executing rapid assessment and life-saving interventions according to Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) guidelines during traumatic or emergency deliveries.
  • Manage and monitor specialized neonatal access, including Umbilical Artery Catheters (UAC), Umbilical Venous Catheters (UVC), and PICC lines, while meticulously calculating and administering TPN, IV fluids, and weight-based medications.
  • Act as a primary liaison for families in crisis, providing compassionate education on neonatal development, breastfeeding support, and specialized home‑care equipment to ensure a safe transition from the NICU to the home environment.
What minimum requirements you’ll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Certification specializing in The S.T.A.B.L.E Program preferred.
  • Certification specializing in Neonatal Resuscitation credentialed from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) preferred.

Education:

  • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time of hire.
