Newport Hospital & Health Services in Newport, WA, seeks an experienced Labor and Delivery nurse to provide direct patient care across L&D, Recovery and Post-Partum. You will assess and plan care, communicate with physicians, and respond quickly to changes in condition while maintaining high standards of safety and comfort for mothers and newborns.

The role requires 1+ year of L&D/Nursery experience, WA RN license or compact eligibility, and active BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRP with AWHONN EFM.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Nursing or equivalent experience.
• Active WA RN license or eligible compact; current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP.
• AWHONN Intermediate EFM; STABLE and related classes within 12 months.
• One year of Labor and Delivery/Newborn Nursery experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in Labor and Delivery, Recovery and Post-Partum.
• Assist care for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn patients, including c-sections and family education.
• Monitor fetal heart rate and uterine activity; respond per AWHONN/ACOG guidelines.
• Communicate changes in patient condition to physicians and team.
• Maintain medication administration and documentation standards.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team and participate in performance improvement.
• Float to other departments after orientation if needed.

Primary Scheduled Hours: Part Time-Benefited, Nights

Job Summary: Provides direct patient care in the Labor and Delivery, Recovery and Post-Partum settings. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient's clinical condition. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby departments.

Essential Job Functions:

• Performs and assists physician with care for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn patients, including assisting with c-sections, educating families in infant and self-care.
• Meets current standards and policies of medication administration and documentation.
• Interacts professionally with patient/family, colleagues, and all members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Monitors and interprets fetal heart rate and uterine activity through continuous EFM, and palpations; Provides appropriate interventions and re-evaluation based on AWHONN and ACOG guidelines.
• Demonstrates ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to obstetrical emergencies.
• Participates in departmental projects and performance improvement activities.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
• Float to other departments, as needed, once orientation and skills checklist has been completed.

Education Background and Experience Requirements

Associate degree in Nursing, or equivalent relevant experience.

Required Licensure / Certification

Active Washington State RN license or eligible compact license; current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP; AWHONN Intermediate EFM; within 12 months, STABLE and other applicable classes as mandated by Newport Hospital. Call required for this position with a 60-minute response time.

Required Experience(Attested)

One (1) or more years of recent Labor and Delivery/Newborn Nursery experience (preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree.
