Job summary

Ascension in Milwaukee, WI seeks a Registered Nurse for the Med Surg Neuro department. This full-time night shift role focuses on delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to stroke and brain injury patients, coordinating multidisciplinary care, and ensuring safe recovery paths.

The ideal candidate will hold a Wisconsin RN license, BLS, and a Diploma in Nursing, with strong patient education and discharge planning skills to support families throughout the care journey.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire; American Heart Association/Red Cross accepted.
• Registered Nurse credentialed from Wisconsin Board of Nursing; multi-state license acceptable if allowed.

Responsibilities

• Lead compassionate, evidence-based care for stroke, brain injury, and post-surgical patients.
• Coordinate care with physicians, therapists, and families to ensure safe, seamless recovery.
• Monitor patient status, identify changes quickly, and initiate rapid interventions as needed.
• Provide patient and family education and discharge planning for a smooth transition home.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Lead the delivery of compassionate, evidence-based care for patients recovering from strokes, brain injuries, and surgeries, ensuring clinical excellence at every bedside.
• Coordinate the multidisciplinary care journey by acting as the central hub between physicians, therapists, and families to ensure a seamless and safe recovery process.
• Monitor and interpret patient clinical status with high precision, proactively identifying changes in condition to ensure rapid intervention and high-quality outcomes.
• Empower patients and their families through dedicated education and discharge planning, ensuring they have the tools and confidence they need for a successful transition home.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Wisconsin Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Licensure from the Wisconsin Board of Nursing OR current home state license if considered multi-state/Compact State.

Education

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time of hire.
