Job summary

Ascension is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Surgical department in Wichita, KS. The role centers on maintaining a sterile field, anticipating the surgeon's needs, and coordinating with the team to optimize operative efficiency.

A strong emphasis is placed on patient safety, meticulous counts, and rapid instrument handling to support high‑quality surgical outcomes and smooth post‑operative transitions.

Qualifications

• Active RN license issued by Kansas
• BLS certification required/active
• ALS/PALS certifications preferred where applicable

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain sterile field for surgeries
• Provide instruments and supplies quickly and accurately
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary team to optimize operative workflow
• Maintain counts and equipment checks to ensure patient safety
• Assist with postoperative suite turnover and readiness for next procedure

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Lead the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field to ensure a safe, infection-free environment for every surgical procedure.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team by providing the correct instruments and supplies with speed and accuracy.
• Coordinate with the multidisciplinary team to streamline operative workflows, directly impacting patient safety and procedure efficiency.
• Maintain meticulous counts and equipment checks to uphold the highest standards of patient care and operational excellence.
• Support the post-operative transition by ensuring the surgical suite is expertly reset and ready for the next life‑saving procedure.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• Required Credential(s):
• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Kansas Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• One or more of the following:
• Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Preferred Credential(s):
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• Required professional licensure/certification AND 3 years of experience and 1 year of cumulative leadership experience required.

• Core Competency: 1+ year of professional experience in a surgical or operating room setting.
