Job summary

SoftPath Medical in Indiana is seeking a dedicated Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to provide compassionate, evidence-based care for women in labor and during cesarean births. You will monitor fetal well-being, support inductions, and coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team.

This role includes on-call duty every third weekend, two sets of holiday coverage, and adherence to safety protocols with Cerner charting and L&D equipment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of labor and delivery experience.
• Active Indiana nursing license and all required certifications.
• BLS, ACLS, NRP, and FHM certifications required.
• Willingness to be on-call for weekends and holiday coverage.

Responsibilities

• Provide labor and delivery care including induction, cesarean sections, and postpartum care.
• Triage and monitor patients and participate in obstetric emergencies.
• Operate and coordinate with L&D equipment and monitoring systems.
• Collaborate with physicians, anesthesiologists, and NICU staff to ensure optimal outcomes.

Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Experience Requirements

A minimum of 2 years of experience is required.

Applicants without prior experience are also encouraged to apply.

Shift and Scheduling

On-call duty is required every third weekend.

Floating to the Maternal Child Health (MCH) unit is expected.

Return-to-office policies include working two out of three major holidays.

Certifications and Licensing

Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, NRP, and FHM.

An active in-state nursing license and all required certifications must be current at the time of application.

Applications with pending licenses will not be accepted.

Work Hours and Shift Options

Guaranteed hours include:

• 8- and 10-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week
• Three 12-hour shifts totaling 36 hours per week
• Four 12-hour shifts totaling 48 hours per week

Clinical Responsibilities

Patient care involves labor management, induction, scheduled and unscheduled cesarean sections, cesarean sections with salpingectomy, spontaneous rupture of membranes (SROM), preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM), hypertension, preeclampsia, and antenatal care for various conditions.

Additional duties include triaging patients.

• Birthing and peanut balls
• Alaris IV pumps
• Phillips wired and wireless monitoring systems
• Periwatch vigilance system (to be implemented in June)
• Steadys
• Hillrom labor beds

Unit Information

Staffing adheres to AWHONN guidelines for patient-to-nurse ratios:

• 1:1 ratio for patients in active labor
• 1:2 ratio for patients not in active labor
• 1:3 ratio for triage or antepartum patients

During periods of high census, nurses may be required to care for additional patients as necessary.
