Job summary

SoftPath Medical is seeking a Critical Care Travel Nurse for high-acuity cardiothoracic support at multiple campuses. You will manage dysrhythmias, monitor complex patients, and respond to rapid changes in ICU conditions.

This role emphasizes post-operative care and advanced hemodynamic monitoring across 12-hour night shifts. Ideal candidates have SICU experience, BLS/ACLS, and comfort with ECMO, IABP, and vasoactive therapies.

Critical Care Travel Nurse Position

Shift Details

3 twelve-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AMEvery other week schedule including 6 weekends (both Saturday and Sunday) within a 13-week contract.Individualized scheduling options available (e.g., blocked shifts, others).Holidays as required.Float assignments may be necessary; all travelers must be prepared to float between multiple campuses.

Experience and Certification Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of experience required.First-time travelers are welcome. BLS and ACLS certifications required. Experience in Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) preferred.

Clinical Skills and Competencies

• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and multi-system organ failure.
• Care for post-cardiac surgery patients (both directly from the OR and not), pre- and post-cardiac catheterization intervention.
• Monitoring with Pulmonary Artery Line (Swan-Ganz catheter).
• Experience with ECMO, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, and Impella devices required.
• Sheath removal and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation/Replacement (TAVI/TAVR) preferred.
• Management of IV insulin protocols; experience with chronic and acute renal failure preferred.
• Continuous Veno-Venous Hemofiltration/Hemodialysis (CVVHD/CRRT) required.
• Arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care and management, and IV insertion.
• Continuous IV sedation and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips.
• Assistance with BiPAP and CPAP management, chest tube insertion and removal, care of ventilated patients, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) use, arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation, suctioning (endotracheal tube and nasotracheal), and ventilator management.

Patient Population

Medical-surgical cardiac ICU patients including those with myocardial infarction (MI), congestive heart failure (CHF), cardiac surgeries, post-cardiac catheterization, left ventricular assist device (LVAD), Impella, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), Arctic Sun cooling system, renal failure requiring CRRT, respiratory failure, and sepsis.Care for open heart surgical patients, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair, vascular surgeries, and ECMO patients.
