Job summary

Dept of State Health Services in Amarillo is seeking a Preparedness and Response Specialist to support regional public health preparedness and response capabilities. The role plans, coordinates, and evaluates disaster readiness efforts across counties, building partnerships with local health departments and government officials.

You will lead trainings, assist with exercises, and provide subject matter expertise in public health preparedness.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited 4 year college or university with major coursework related to emergency management or public health.
• Two years’ experience in emergency management related field or two years’ experience in public health.
• Experience in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
• Experience with National Incident Management System (NIMS) and ICS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Acts as liaison between Department of State Health Services and local governments and stakeholders.
• Develops and implements disaster readiness plans, drills, and community wellness improvements.
• Provides technical assistance during planning and response exercises and real events.
• Speaks to community groups to address preparedness and response initiatives/issues.
