Job summary

Church World Service is seeking an Advocacy & Grassroots Organizer to build the collective power of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and allied communities across Virginia. You will develop grassroots leadership and strengthen civic participation to influence local, state, and federal policies that create more welcoming communities.

The role is semi-remote from our Virginia office with travel across Virginia and occasional DC work, requiring evening and weekend availability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; success organizing with refugee or immigrant populations.
• Minimum 3 years in community organizing, advocacy, civic engagement, or related work.
• Experience with immigrant or refugee communities at the grassroots level.
• Ability to build coalitions and manage multiple partners.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, develop and support refugee and immigrant leaders with a core leadership team.
• Conduct regular relational meetings to identify emerging leaders and sustain relationships.
• Organize events and meetings promoting welcome for refugees and immigrants in Virginia.
• Coordinate meetings with policy makers at national, state, and local levels; partner with Advocacy team.
• Develop policy goals and priorities with community leaders for sharing with policymakers.
• Engage faith communities and allies to support shared goals.
• Coordinate leadership trainings focused on organizing, storytelling, voter registration and civic engagement.
