Job summary

Church World Service (CWS) is seeking a passionate Advocacy & Grassroots Organizer to build the power of refugees and immigrants in Virginia. The role focuses on developing grassroots leadership, civic participation, and advancing policies for welcoming communities.

The position is semi-remote from the Virginia office with travel across Virginia and occasional DC travel, including evenings and weekends. Candidates with 3+ years in community organizing and advocacy are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a social science field or related certification/experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in community organizing, advocacy, civic engagement, leadership development, or related work.
• Experience working with immigrant or refugee communities at the grassroots level.
• Fluency in English and at least one additional language commonly spoken by refugee and immigrant communities.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, develop and support a network of refugee and immigrant leaders across Virginia.
• Conduct regular meetings to identify emerging leaders and maintain leadership base.
• Organize events and meetings to promote welcome of refugees and immigrants in Virginia.
• Coordinate meetings with policymakers at national, state, and local levels with CWS Policy unit.
• Develop informed policy goals and priorities with community leaders and partners.
• Coordinate and facilitate leadership trainings on organizing, storytelling and civic engagement.
• Travel throughout Virginia to strategize with community members.
