Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking an HVAC/Mechanical Maintenance Technician to maintain and repair refrigeration and processing equipment across our facilities. The role involves installing, calibrating, and servicing HVAC systems, boilers, and related components, while ensuring safety and reliability.

You will log maintenance activities, coordinate with operations, and respond to emergencies or urgent work requests.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 1+ years of related experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing.
• Or 4 years' direct experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance.
• Universal EPA Certification is required.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to work independently are also required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, repair, modify and install HVAC equipment including refrigeration and air conditioning components.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections on refrigeration, heating and ventilating units, boilers and related equipment.
• Repair or replace defective parts in units and controls, including thermostats, switches, valves and compressors.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools, welding torch, vacuum pump and test equipment; maintain safe working conditions.
• Perform electrical maintenance and connect motors to control panels as needed.
• Install and calibrate systems, copper tubing and piping; test joints and insulate refrigeration components.
• Maintain equipment records, time and material logs, and write periodic reports.
• Maintain open communication with operations and respond to unplanned or emergency work requests.
