Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Refrigeration/Boiler Technician to support maintenance for a food manufacturing environment in North Carolina. The role requires a RETA background and experience with ammonia refrigeration, engines, and boiler systems.

You will join a safety‑driven team and participate in planned repairs, inspections, and real‑time troubleshooting. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED with 1+ year in industrial maintenance, or 4 years of related experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 1+ year in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing; or 4 years' direct maintenance experience.
• RETA Certification, Ammonia Refrigeration, Engine & Boiler systems, and related maintenance skills are preferred.
• Ability to work across shifts including days/evenings/overnights and weekends.
• Basic computer skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties of Refrigeration/Boiler Technician and assist maintenance on shift.
• Plan and conduct equipment repairs with safety leadership.
• Conduct routine audits and inspections of equipment.
• Demonstrate troubleshooting abilities and strong communication with operations.
• Be able to respond to unplanned/emergency work requests promptly.

This individual will perform the duties of a Refrigeration/Boiler Technician and assist other maintenance personnel on his/her shift.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1+ years of related experience and/or training in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment; or 4 years' direct experience in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance environment.
• Industrial maintenance experience should include comprehensive knowledge in three or more of the following areas:

  • PLC/software & hardware
  • Pneumatics & Hydraulics
  • Mechanical systems
  • Predictive/Predictive maintenance

  • Metal fabrication
• Basic computer skills and the ability to work independently are also required for this position.
• Preference will be given to candidates with a certification or degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial maintenance and/or related college or technical level course work.
• This is a full time hourly position; all applicants should be willing to work all shifts (days/evenings/overnights), extended hours and weekends.
