Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Referral Specialist in East Providence, RI to manage referrals and scheduling per physician requests. Responsibilities

• Schedule/coordinate/triage all referrals created by and sent to the practice via LifeChart work queues.
• Set follow-up alarms per practice protocols and the tracking function to ensure all outstanding referrals are followed up.
• Obtain all un-resulted consults and testing orders managed by the referral office.
• Alert the ordering provider of patients who miss appointments with a specialist or testing facility.
• Scan all correspondence into the medical record and forward to the proper ordering provider.
• Take messages from the referral line/fax, create a referral in LifeChart, and obtain PCP approval before sending referrals.
• Contact patients and provide appointment information and any pre-visit instructions.
• Maintain knowledge of insurer referral authorization requirements and cultural sensitivity.
