Job description

About the position: This position is a Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) Flexible (Flex) position located at the Ft Eustis Aquatics Center on Joint Base Langley-Eustis VA - Ft Eustis location. Flex positions have no guaranteed hours but can work 0-40 hours per week. This position may be subject to holidays, nights, weekends, and on-call work.

This government establishment requires a REAL ID compliant identification for base access.

Duties

1. Performs lifeguarding duties and limited management functions.
2. Directs the operation of the pool and the work of assigned lifeguards.
3. Ensures the safe operation of the pool, its filtration system, water balance, and pool chemistry; performs water tests.
4. Responsible for lifeguarding guests at the assigned aquatics facility.
5. Rescues swimmers and administers first aid as required.
6. Ensures safety rules are followed.
7. Attends aquatics and/or safety training as directed.
8. May be required to assist swim instructors.
9. Keeps accurate records and maintains supplies.

Requirements

• This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
• This position requires nationally recognized certification as a lifeguard as well as basic first aid and CPR certification.

• Dexterity to handle panicked or unconscious persons in water.
• Understanding and enforcement of safety regulations.
• Ability to use equipment for pool readings.
• National and state background checks are required for positions involving youth programs.
