City of Carson is seeking a part-time recreation supervisor to oversee diverse programs for all ages, including youth sports leagues and community events. The role emphasizes safety, organization, and positive interactions with participants.
The ideal candidate will have college-level recreation education and about one year of leadership experience. This at-will, non-exempt position may offer health coverage and sick leave accruals in certain conditions.
The Human Services offers programming for people of all ages and abilities. Specific duties may include supervising seniors in social settings and during fitness activities, working with people who have disabilities through Therapeutic Recreation or the Stroke Center, and teaching sports fundamentals to children as young as two. This position also requires assistance at citywide special events. The ideal candidate is patient, friendly, trustworthy, and compassionate.
These positions are part-time/temporary, at-will (FLSA: Non-Exempt) positions that are limited to a maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year. Part-time employees are not typically eligible for benefits; however, they may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions.
Under general supervision, supervise various recreational programs; and perform related duties as required.

A typical way to obtain the requisite qualifications to perform the duties of this class is as follows:
Equivalent to completion of thirty (30) semester units at a recognized college with a major in recreation or related field and approximately one (1) year of leadership experience in a variety of recreation activities.
Possession of Valid California Class C driver's license and must be insurable by the City's insurance carrier. Possession of a valid American Red Cross Standard First Aid certificate is desirable.
