Job summary

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services seeks a Peer Support Specialist to work at JFK ADATC, an inpatient facility for adults with substance use and mental health disorders. You will facilitate psychoeducational groups, document attendance in the EHR, and develop recovery-focused curricula that align with the facility's schedule.

The role requires collaboration with clinicians and providing advocacy and support from a non-clinical perspective during the episode of care.

Qualifications

• Ability to create and maintain records, notes, and reports of client/patient progress and behaviors.
• Ability to support adults in both group and one-on-one settings.
• Ability to effectively communicate with community/outreach service providers, persons with substance use and/or mental health disorders, treatment team members, and clinical staff in verbal and written forms.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with clinical professionals involved in treating substance use and/or mental health disorders.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate psychoeducational groups/classes/lectures up to three times daily, including evenings and weekends.
• Document group attendance and participation in the electronic health record system.
• Create recovery-based curriculum and develop new group topics and lectures to fit patient activity schedules.
• Maintain professional boundaries and collaborate with clinical staff to provide advocacy and support from a non-clinical perspective.
