Job summary

ICL is seeking a Peer Specialist to support residents under supervision, educate them about self-help techniques and recovery goals, assist in housing readiness, and help develop community supports that sustain independent living.

You will help residents access medical, social, psychosocial, financial and vocational services, participate in crisis intervention, document case records, and collaborate with colleagues to facilitate outcomes that promote dignity and lasting wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Completion of internship or comparable training in peer advocacy.
  • Experience in providing advocacy services to people who are mentally ill and/or homeless.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels residents to meet service needs and housing goals.
  • Educates residents about self-help techniques and group processes.
  • Teaches coping strategies based on personal experience.
  • Teaches symptom management skills.
  • Clarifies rehabilitation and recovery goals.
  • Maintains up-to-date case records for each resident.
  • Assists in obtaining and developing resource information for residents.
  • Assists residents in meeting service plan goals.
  • Supports housing-focused discharge planning and individualized services.
  • Explains clinical services and ICL programs to residents; teaches daily living skills.
  • Performs crisis assessment and intervention.
  • Refers residents to community resources and accompanies visits to treatment facilities.
  • Advocates for residents with external providers and within ICL.
  • Assists residents in finding vocational or training opportunities.
  • Reports serious incidents to supervisors and completes incident reports.
  • Complies with attendance and timekeeping rules and attends meetings and trainings.
  • Follows infection control policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
