Job summary

Theagapenetwork seeks a Peer Specialist to support clients with serious mental illness, substance use, and co-occurring disorders in a residential setting. This role uses personal recovery experience to model coping skills and advocate for clients, promoting independence and community reintegration.

Responsibilities include counseling, resource linkage, and collaboration with the treatment team to uphold client rights and facilitate group and individual activities.

Qualifications

• Articulate wellness/recovery principles.
• Adaptability and cultural sensitivity for mental health populations.

• Good written and verbal communication; basic computer skills.
• Commit to ongoing staff development (WRAP, Peer Specialist, Leadership).

Responsibilities

• Engage in peer-to-peer counseling and education using personal recovery experience.
• Encourage clients in their recovery and access to community resources.
• Attend weekly treatment team meetings.
• Serve as a role model and mentor to empower clients.
• Collaborate with the treatment team to protect client rights and explain grievance procedures.
• Lead community-based and agency events as assigned.
• Facilitate group meetings to support daily living skills.
• Organize and lead individual and group leisure activities.
• Link clients to local church after program completion.
