Job summary

ICL is seeking a Peer Specialist in Brooklyn, NY to serve as a role model and provide self-help education, coping strategies, and crisis intervention. The role involves helping recipients access medical, social, and vocational services, and supporting independence in living, work, and community life.

The position requires travel to recipients' residences, collaboration with the team, and documentation of progress and plans.

Qualifications

• Must be committed to promoting ICL values.
• Ability to work with recipients, families, staff with cultural sensitivity.
• Ability to serve as a role model to residents/recipients.
• Ability to complete written forms and reports accurately and timely.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, recipients, families, and the public.
• Ability to accompany or transport residents if required (driver's license may be needed).

Responsibilities

• Travels to/visits recipients' residences to provide supportive services on a schedule established by the program.
• Counsels recipients regarding plans for meeting service needs and helps mobilize resources to achieve goals.
• Educates recipients about self-help techniques and group processes.
• Teaches coping strategies based on personal experience and supports rehabilitation goals.
• Maintains up-to-date, accurate individual case records for assigned recipients.
• Assists in obtaining and disseminating resource information for recipients' care.
