Job summary

Whitney Young Health (WYH) seeks a Peer Support Specialist to develop and provide peer support services for people living with HIV/HCV and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The role focuses on promoting self-advocacy and building support networks within a team-based care setting.

Responsibilities include facilitating recovery skills, mentoring patients, crisis intervention, aiding treatment planning, and linking patients to HIV/HCV care with education on adherence and viral

Qualifications

• AA degree or completion of peer training program.
• At least two years of paid or volunteer work with adults with mental illness, substance use disorders, or HIV/HCV.
• Basic computer skills and good telephone skills.
• Must have been a participant of behavioral health or HIV/HCV treatment programs.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate recovery skills development with patients as part of the treatment team.
• Mentor/role model demonstrating recovery competencies.
• Advocate for patients; provide crisis intervention support.
• Support the medical case manager in developing treatment plans.
• Conduct HIV and HCV rapid testing and link to follow-up care.
• Educate patients on HIV/HCV and support adherence and viral suppression.
• Assist with life skills and workforce readiness referrals.
• Participate in Consumer Advisory Board.
