Heritage Behavioral Health Center, Inc. is seeking a Recovery Support Specialist to provide peer-based support to adults in outpatient settings across Decatur, IL.

This role uses lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery to empower clients toward personal goals within a community-based care framework. The position emphasizes hope, person-driven care, and coordination with clinical teams, while offering a full-time schedule with paid wellness Fridays and opportunities for

Qualifications

• Knowledge: recovery principles, peer support ethics, trauma-informed care.
• Skills: share lived experience, strong communication, problem-solving.
• Abilities: work independently in community settings, adapt to changing needs and environments.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with individuals based on lived experience and mutual respect.
• Provide peer mentoring and recovery coaching to help clients identify goals and coping strategies.
• Promote recovery principles and self-determination in the community.
• Assist clients in accessing housing, employment, education, healthcare and social supports.
• Facilitate connections to peer support groups and recovery activities.
• Model recovery and resilience and maintain appropriate self-disclosure.
• Support transitions such as hospital discharge, crisis stabilization, or entry into treatment.
• Document services accurately and maintain confidentiality per standards.
• Coordinate care with clinical teams, social service agencies, and community partners.
