Job summary

Heritage Behavioral Health Center in Decatur, IL is hiring a Recovery Support Specialist to provide peer-based recovery support for adults in community settings. You will use lived experience to offer hope, guidance, and practical assistance on personal recovery journeys.

The role emphasizes building relationships, empowering clients, and coordinating resources across housing, employment, education, and health services. A CRSS pathway and strong communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain Certification as Recovery Support Specialist within 12 months.
• Minimum age 21.
• Valid driver’s license and transportation.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships using lived experience and mutual respect.
• Provide peer mentoring and recovery coaching to identify strengths and goals.
• Encourage self-determination and community inclusion via SAMHSA principles.
• Assist clients in accessing housing, employment, education and health resources.
• Connect clients with peer support groups and recovery activities.
• Demonstrate recovery and resilience through appropriate self-disclosure.
• Support transitions such as hospital discharge or entry into treatment.
• Document services accurately and maintain confidentiality per standards.
• Coordinate care with clinical teams and community partners.
