Job summary

Heritage Behavioral Health Center is seeking a compassionate Recovery Support Specialist to join the Behavioral Health Urgent Care and Crisis Observation team in Decatur, IL. This role emphasizes peer engagement, recovery-oriented care, and rapid assessment within a 24/7 unit.

Responsibilities include coaching, warm hand-offs, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless transitions to ongoing services.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• CRSS or CPRS certification, or eligible to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Lived experience with mental health or substance use recovery is valued in this peer-support role.
• Valid driver''s license and reliable transportation are required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary staff in peer-managed crisis observation
• Provide recovery coaching, hope, and peer support
• Welcome and orient individuals to services in Behavioral Health Urgent Care
• Facilitate engagement activities to promote wellness and recovery
• Conduct milieu monitoring and safety checks in a therapeutic setting
• Communicate changes to the clinical team and coordinate warm hand-offs
• Assist with transportation coordination and community resource linkage
• Document services accurately within established timeframes
• Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to recovery principles
• Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training
