Job summary

Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to use lived recovery experience to support adults with mental health and substance use challenges. The role emphasizes advocacy for self-determination, teaching coping skills, and facilitating recovery-oriented activities within a team under the Health Services Department.

Responsibilities include building a supportive patient community, coordinating with related programs, and promoting patient engagement in daily living

Qualifications

• Must be a Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribal or Community Member.
• Must have personal experience with recovery and have a minimum of 1 year in recovery.
• Must be able to work daytime, evenings, and weekends as required.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to engage patients in self-directed recovery.
• Willingness to teach coping and problem-solving strategies to patients.

Responsibilities

• Support Patients: Use of personal experiences to develop meaningful and trusting relationships with patients.
• Teach, model, and demonstrate healthy self-care tools and coping strategies for patients in recovery.
• Build Community: develop a supportive community of patients and staff to promote growth and recovery.
• Program Development: provide recovery-based services to aid daily living.
• Resource Coordination: coordinate with relevant programs to support recovery services and transitions back into the community.
