Job summary

Kitsap Mental Health Services is seeking a Crisis Peer Support Specialist in Port Orchard to support clients using lived experience in crisis and recovery services. The role emphasizes advocacy, recovery‑oriented communication, and collaboration with medical and social service teams.

The Peer Specialist will help clients address transportation, daily activities, and engagement with community resources while promoting self‑determination and hope within a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years of experience working with behavioral health/substance use populations and crisis/inpatient settings.
• Must meet agency driving requirements and have a valid Washington driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Draw on peer experiences to validate clients and encourage participation in recovery.
• Promote hope and empowerment to help clients achieve recovery goals and independence.
• Share experiences related to involuntary treatment and provide recovery‑oriented communication.
• Provide information and referrals for transportation to primary care, dental, and specialists.
• Coach clients to socialize and plan leisure activities.
• Maintain communication with physicians, families, and discharge planning teams.
• Coordinate with social services to provide indicated services.
• Support arrangements for less restrictive placements with crisis responders.
• Identify and combat stigma, and connect to self‑help groups.
• Assist clients in accessing health care and social services, including housing and legal support.

Education
