Job summary

RHA Health Services in Asheville, NC is seeking an ACTT Peer Support Specialist to provide community-based peer support, promote self-determination, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support recovery goals.

The role requires QMHP status and Peer Support certification or eligibility, a high school diploma or GED, and driving credentials. Pay is $19 per hour with full-time hours 8:30 to 5 and some on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Qualified Mental Health Professional Status and Peer Support certification or certificate of peer support supervision.
• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• 1 year of experience working with persons with the population supported.
• Certified as a Peer Support Specialist or 1 continuous year as a current or former recipient of treatment and eligible for certification as Peer Support Specialist by the governing agency.
• Must complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of training within the first 90 days of employment.
• Valid drivers’ license and automotive insurance.
• Ability to pass background check and drug screen.
• CPR, first aid, and related certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Meeting with clients to provide advice and support in accordance with a treatment plan.
• Assisting in peer support groups with assigned consumers on a regular basis.
• Supporting/assisting consumers in daily decision making and resolution of minor problems.
• Assisting clients by finding resources, advising the consumer of processes, and encouraging follow through with proposed resolutions.
• Accompanying clients to meetings and participating in community group meetings to advocate for consumer needs.
• Fostering client development of healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities.
• Observing behavior and discussing observations with the clients.
• Modeling effective coping and self-help techniques for individuals or groups.
