Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a Peer Support Specialist I to provide support and advocacy for patients with mental illness. The role involves facilitating peer-led groups, sharing recovery experiences, and coordinating with Eyerly Ball and CCBHC teams to promote engagement and positive outcomes.

The PSS I will work to connect clients with mental health services and overcome barriers, while maintaining documentation and collaboration with departments to improve client care and satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Must have completed or will complete a state sanctioned Peer Support Specialist training.
• Must pass competency exam based on training.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate peer-led support group sessions to assist clients in mental health recovery.
• Share personal recovery experiences to build trust and professional relationships with clients.
• Use critical thinking to make independent judgments and maintain responsibility for services provided.
• Provide in-person community-based services in all CCBHC counties.
• Assist clients to overcome barriers to services (anxiety, finances, transportation, health limits, etc.).
• Connect clients to mental health services and groups including therapy, medication management, and NAMI.
• Advocate for clients and register them; distribute food from the pantry if needed.
