Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Chief Engineer, Software to lead a small team in developing real-time, high-reliability software for uncrewed systems.

The role combines architecture, mentoring, and hands-on coding across C/C++, Java, Golang, and Python in a dynamic defense/aerospace setting. The position requires a Bachelor's in a technical field and 10+ years of software engineering experience, with strong Linux, databases, and testing expertise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or Physics is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in software engineering or related field. Strong software engineering skills with proficiency in C/C++, Java, Golang, and/or Python languages, including data structures, algorithms, OOP, and development workflows

Responsibilities

• Designs, architects, and implements software for complex robotic and aerospace systems.
• Leads the technical development of software products to ensure timely delivery within scope and budget.
• Supports software roadmaps and testing/demo of components and integrated systems.
• Develops documentation, technical reports, and customer-facing presentations.
• Creates software design documentation per software process requirements.
• Supports improvement of software processes and coding standards.
• Develops basis-of-estimates for software projects to support proposals.
• Delivers work on time according to schedules.
• Collaborates with other software developers for reuse across programs.
• Mentors engineers and works in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
