Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to design, develop, and deliver high‑performance autonomy software for real‑time systems. You will build scalable systems across the full stack in an Agile environment to support complex mission needs.

Responsibilities include implementing C++ software for autonomy algorithms, integrating CI/CD pipelines, developing ground control station software for Android, and guiding architecture decisions with systems engineers and product leaders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer/engineering/physics or equivalent; STEM
• Experience with modern C++, maintainable architecture, and modular design
• Experience with DDS or similar data distribution protocols and networking basics
• Experience with mechatronic/hardware-integrated software and real‑time determinism

Responsibilities

• Develops C++ software to implement autonomy algorithms for real-time systems
• Support and integrate CI/CD pipelines
• Develops ground control station (GCS) software for Android
• Owns architecture and design decisions for software systems and evaluates risks
• Troubleshoots technical issues with aircraft and payloads
• Interfaces with 3rd party vendors to integrate new payloads
• Develops user manuals and technical documentation
• Collaborates with systems engineers and other software disciplines
• Partners with Chief Engineer and Product Line Manager to define requirements
• Provides technical leadership and mentoring to engineers
