AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Chief Engineer, Software to lead a small team developing real-time, high-reliability software for uncrewed systems.

You will mentor engineers, architect software for robotic and aerospace systems, and drive roadmap and process improvements. The role requires a bachelor’s in a technical field and 10+ years of software engineering experience, with strong skills in C/C++, Java, Golang, or Python, and a background in testing, documentation, and collaboration across

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or Physics is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in software engineering or related field
• Strong software engineering skills with proficiency in C/C++, Java, Golang, and/or Python languages, including data structures, algorithms, OOP, and development workflows
• Experience with relational database systems such as PostgreSQL or MySQL a plus
• Experience with Ubuntu and/or CentOS Linux operating systems
• Experienced writing unit tests and debugging code

Responsibilities

• Designs, architectures, and implements software for complex robotic and aerospace systems
• Leads the technical development of software products to ensure on-time delivery per schedule and budget
• Supports development of software product roadmaps
• Supports testing and demonstration of components and integrated systems
• Develops documentation, technical reports, and inputs for customers and stakeholders
• Creates software design documentation per software process requirements
• Supports development and improvement of software processes and coding standards
• Develops basis-of-estimates for software projects to support proposals
• Delivers work on time and collaborates with other developers to reuse software
• Operates in a learning environment with minimal supervision and mentors less experienced engineers
• Interacts to build productive internal/external relationships
• Other duties as assigned
