Job summary

Kansas Municipal Energy Agency (KMEA) in Overland Park, KS seeks a System Operator to perform real-time system operations, including communicating dispatch instructions from SPP to member cities. You will monitor load, adjust unit commitment and dispatch, and manage real-time markets and outages.

The role requires strong communication, knowledge of power scheduling, and ability to work rotating shifts including nights and weekends. On-site work location in Overland Park, KS.

Qualifications

• Customer service skills are essential for interactions with cities and partners.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Knowledge of power industry concepts and reliability practices is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work 8–12 hour rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.
• Understand and implement power scheduling, supply, and standby duties.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of RTO market protocols.
• Coordinate with cities and contractors on unit commitment and dispatch.
• Maintain records of communications and transactions in KMEA systems.
• Monitor day-ahead and real-time market results and adjust plans.
• Ensure outage systems are updated and manage NERC tagging functions.
