Job summary

City Utilities of Springfield is seeking a Power System Operator/Dispatcher to monitor and control our electric grid. You will operate the EMS, monitor load and voltage, and coordinate unit commitment and switching actions to maintain reliability across the bulk electric system.

The role requires NERC Operator Certification at BIT level, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including nights and holidays.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business field required or equivalent experience.
• Two years of college or vocational courses in electricity/power systems may substitute for a degree.
• Two years of progressively responsible experience in power generation, transmission, or distribution operation; Power System Operator training within one year.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Energy Management System to maintain reliability and restore power after disturbances.
• Monitor load, voltage, and transmission operations; coordinate switching and outages.
• Ensure compliance with NERC reliability standards and coordinate with reliability stakeholders.
