Job summary
Milk Education is seeking a Literacy Intervention Assistant to join a Primary School in Durham. You will deliver 1:1 and small-group reading interventions, support phonics, vocabulary and comprehension, and help pupils close literacy gaps.
You’ll work closely with teachers to support progress, adapt activities for different abilities and build confidence in reluctant readers. This role offers competitive pay, flexible days and dedicated consultant support.
Qualifications
- Experience in tutoring, education, childcare, youth work or similar – desirable but not essential.
- A graduate or aspiring teacher.
- Volunteer or placement experience working with children.
Responsibilities
- Delivering 1:1 and small-group reading interventions.
- Supporting phonics and word recognition.
- Developing vocabulary and comprehension.
- Helping pupils close literacy gaps.
- Encouraging children to discover books they enjoy.
- Building confidence in reluctant readers.
- Adapting activities to different abilities.
- Working closely with teachers to support pupil progress.
- Celebrating every milestone—from reading a new word to finishing a whole book.
