Job description

The Catch-Up Crew! – Primary Intervention Assistant | Durham
Durham | September 2026 | Primary Schools | Full-Time
Ready to turn “I can’t do it” into “I DID IT!”?

Milk Education is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Primary Intervention Assistant to work across welcoming schools in Durham.

You’ll support pupils who need that extra bit of time, encouragement and attention to close learning gaps and build their confidence.

From helping a child crack their phonics to finally understanding a tricky maths problem, you’ll be there to make those “I’ve got it!” moments happen.

This is a fantastic opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, tutors, experienced Teaching Assistants or anyone with a background supporting children.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Supporting reading and phonics interventions.
  • Helping pupils develop their writing, spelling and literacy skills.
  • Supporting maths catch-up sessions.
  • Delivering engaging 1:1 and small-group activities.
  • Helping pupils close gaps in their learning.
  • Building confidence and encouraging children to keep trying.
  • Adapting activities to suit different abilities and learning styles.
  • Tracking progress and celebrating achievements.
  • Working alongside teachers to support pupil development.
We’re Looking For Someone Who…
  • Loves seeing children make progress and achieve something they once found difficult.
  • Is patient, encouraging and positive.
  • Can make learning feel fun rather than frustrating.
  • Is confident working with individuals and small groups.
  • Has experience in tutoring, education, childcare, nursery or youth work — desirable but not essential.
  • Is a graduate, aspiring teacher or someone with volunteering/placement experience working with children.
  • Is reliable, adaptable and ready to get stuck in.
  • Has a genuine passion for helping children reach their potential.
Why This Role?

Sometimes all a child needs is someone to believe in them.

You could be the person who helps a reluctant reader discover their confidence.

You could be the person who turns a maths problem they’ve struggled with into something they finally understand.

You could be the person who makes them think:

“Maybe I’m actually really good at this.”

Why Milk Education?
  • Competitive rates of pay with temp-to-perm routes available.
  • Speedy registration process & fast-track compliance.
  • Flexible days and working hours to suit your schedule.
  • FREE CPD training.
  • FREE PSHE lesson plans and resources.
  • Educator Wellbeing support.
  • School Preparation Pack.
  • 24/7 support from your personal consultant.
  • Long-term and permanent opportunities.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
